Property Description

Located just steps from everything downtown and a single block from the city center, 609 State St. blends Portsmouth's architectural heritage with modern living. Built in 1890, the historic Whipple School is now made up of 11 beautiful condo units. This two-bedroom, two-bath home is the community's only ground-floor residence, combining an easy single-story layout with direct walk-out access to a private backyard patio. The interior pairs historic character with clean, modern upgrades, featuring an open living and dining space ideal for relaxing and hosting dinner parties. The newly updated kitchen includes rich granite countertops, accent tile, under-cabinet lighting, an induction range, and built-in wine storage. Both full bathrooms showcase fresh designer updates, complemented by crisp paint throughout the home. Rare for historic downtown properties, storage is exceptionally abundant, with generous in-home closets and access to shared building facilities. The pet-friendly building makes morning dog walks effortless. Complete with the rare downtown bonus of two designated parking spaces, this home puts Portsmouth's renowned dining, artisanal shops, and cultural destinations right outside your door. Qualified tenant has a credit score of 600 or greater with nothing past due or in collections. Applicants will be asked to show an income at least 2.5 times the monthly rent. Pets negotiable to qualified applicants.
